  Taber Irrigation Impact Museum
The Taber & District Museum Society is a Registered Not for Profit Society and a Registered Charity. (Income Tax receipts for any donations over $10.00)  It is the mandate of the Society to operate the Taber Irrigation Impact Museum.  The Museum is home for hundreds of artifacts and archival documents of importance to Taber's past, present and future.  We are an Interpretive Centre, Museum, Archives and Art Gallery.

Interpretive Centre: Taber has become a town, strong because of our diversity.  We are home to agricultural processing industries, oil companies and a strong retail sector.  Our agriculture has become the force that it is because of our ability to irrigate, which is why we have chosen to highlight irrigation and the benefits it has brought to our community in one half of our displays.  The many businesses in and around Taber are an important part of these displays and this is the area we focus on for our interpretive tours.

Museum: The museum actively collects artifacts that deal with our communities past.  The people of any community is what makes the place tick.  We tell the stories of these people.   What is the ethnic makeup of Taber?  What service clubs are here and how long have they been here?  What businesses are here? What brought the early settlers here?  These are just some of the questions we think of when planning our artifact exhibits in the museum.

Archives: The museum has a strong archives department and collections of microfilm supplied by the Taber Times date back to 1907 and continue even today.  We have copies of history books put out by the clubs, churches, schools and groups of Taber people over the past 100 years and photos that you are not likely to find anywhere else.  We assist researchers with many projects or will do some basic research for you at a reasonable cost.

Art Gallery:  We began acting as Taber's only Art Gallery for local artists in the fall of 2000 and continue today, showing artists from many categories.  Painters, photographers, needleworkers, sculptures, you name it and we will show it.  The only criteria is that you live within 100 miles of Taber and want to show your work to the public.  If you haven't shown your work yet and are interested please give us a call.

  Tours

Call the Museum to book an interpretive tour for your group.  All ages welcome.  We specialize in tours for elementary school age children, giving them an overview of Taber's History beginning with the story of Tank 77 and coal mining.  We move forward in time and always feature some part of our agricultural history beginning with irrigation and what this has meant to our region.   After hour tours are welcomed and can be arranged by calling Karen during regular museum hours.

  Events

Watch for our 2011 Cowboy Poetry Event - Saturday, March 26th.
Planning begins in November of 2010 so if you would like to be part of the entertainment please contact Karen at the museum before then.

Grants are what keeps many volunteer  and not for profit societies going.  Our Museum is no exception and it is with great pleasure that I recognize the following for grants we have received in 2010.

The Town of Taber and the M.D. of Taber contributions to our operating budget are greatly appreciated.

The Lethbridge Community Foundation approved our Grant request for $2000.00 to assist with our project to digitize our photo collection.  With this grant we have purchased a negative scanner and a digital camera.  We have scanned more than 600 photos already this year and continue to work on the project.  We have recently discovered a side benefit to having a digital camera.  We can now take photos of articles from our microfillm collection and download it onto our computer to get a printed and easily readable copy.

The Community Spirit Grant is based on donations received by the museum during the year and we received a grant of $1,206.05 from this Ab. Government Program.  Thanks to the program and to the individual donors who made it possible for us to receive the grant.
